Connelly & Wicker | PRIME AE provided services for civil design and permitting for the site improvements related to the renovation of the Cummer Museum of Arts and Gardens in Jacksonville Florida. PRIME AE was retained to be part of the team of companies that worked to restore the original landscape design by the Olmsted Brothers firm. The original “Olmsted Gardens” were partially obliterated in the early 1960s when both Cummer homes were demolished to make way for a new museum building. The design restoration relied heavily on archival material from the Olmsted Brothers firm as well as historic Cummer family photographs. We designed driveway connections and utilities improvements to be integrated with the landscaping and parking lot designed to complement the historic nature of the facility. PRIME AE coordinated with the FDOT improvement project of Riverside Avenue adjacent to the museum and parking area. PRIME AE was also responsible for the design of pervious pavement system in lieu of a traditional stormwater management facility since there was no available space for surface facilities. Required permitting with FDOT, COJ, and SJRWMD.
